Margot
Gayle, VSA Co-founder and Preservationist dies, aged 100.
We regret to announce the news
that Margot Gayle, long-time preservation advocate of cast-iron architecture
and co-founder of the Victorian Society in America, died peacefully at home on
Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the age of 100.
Margot Gayle was a revered
character not only within the VSA, where she twice was given the President's
Award for outstanding service, but throughout the wider historical
preservation movement. Hers was a powerful voice for saving treasured
cast-iron buildings, as well as antique street clocks in New York City and
around the country for decades until her death.
We send sincere condolences
to her two daughters, Carol Gayle and Gretchen Gayle Ellsworth, her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her many friends.
