Summer School Reception in Washington DC

The VSA Washington Metropolitan Chapter and the Alumni Association of the VSA Summer Schools hosted a reception on January 24, 2012 for prospective students to attend the 2012 VSA Newport and London Summer Schools.  The event was held in a conference room of the S. Dillon Ripley Center at the Smithsonian Institution, an attractive venue with access provided by the directors of the Smithsonian-Mason MA Program in the History of Decorative Arts.  The Department of History and Art History at George Mason University in nearby Fairfax, Virginia now partners with the Smithsonian Associates in this program.

Speaking at the reception, Jennifer Adams, alumna of the 2011 Newport and the 2007 London Summer Schools and David Hathcock, alumnus of the 2011 London Summer School described their Summer School experiences and showed pictures of some sites visited during the schools.

The Washington Metropolitan Chapter provides funds for scholarships to the VSA Summer Schools.  Prospective Summer School applicants attended the reception from The Catholic University of America School of Architecture and Planning, the University of Maryland Historic Preservation Program, and the History of Decorative Arts Masters program run by the Smithsonian Institution.  Numerous other alumni of the VSA Summer Schools also attended. dcssreception
